I have measured my kitten and bought the recommended size but it could still break out if left unattended, even with the smallest velcro. I love that it also has a clasp because I know the velcro will soften over time. It didn't take long for him to put up with wearing it and he even showed patience when I put it on because he knew it meant being outside.
