When my cat is nervous or stressed, she expresses it by urinating outside the litter box. In the past, he only aimed at bath mats, which always had to be placed over the tub when not in use. About two and a half weeks into a particularly difficult and lengthy moving process, I found that he was urinating on numerous piles of clothes and towels (not yet sorted), something he had never done before. Unfortunately, urine didn't stay in the heap and ran onto the carpet that the newcomers had just laid. I didn't notice it right away in the fray, so the fight was going to be tough. To get the urine out of the laundry, I tossed everything in the washing machine and increased the amount of regular detergent, alternating with Kids N' Pets. from Home Depot, good old Borax and OxyClean. Eventually, after a few cycles, this spinning combo saved all but a few items (which luckily were disposable). The carpet was a different story, however, as by this point it had been repeatedly soaked to the brim with urine and dried. Pad. Kids N' Pets did absolutely nothing, which was surprising considering it was effective at washing and I've used it successfully on hard surfaces. I went to the local pet store to pick up some Nature's Miracle enzymatic cat cleaner (the supposed "gold standard"). Despite taking care of the little throw-away stains, even after two treatment cycles, he barely left a dent in the area where he peed the most. Due to the cost per gallon of failed product installation, I searched online for the best solution and found a universal recommendation for this brand everywhere. I doubted because the name was. Spring. pretty silly and not entirely believable. Who ever expected to be taken seriously when they stigmatized themselves baby talk? But good word of mouth is usually for a reason, so I gave it a try. Unlike the other two, this one didn't recommend getting wet after applying it, which may or may not be an important difference in technique. I applied Anti-Icky-Poo liberally (I still can't even print this without a shudder), stamped on it and let the enzymes work. A few days later I checked the carpet very carefully and then the clouds parted and the sun came out because the smell of urine was gone. I say place my face squarely on each point and take a deep breath. There is no smell of cat urine anywhere. As the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. I just throw everything else down the drain because this product is completely legal and will definitely be staying in the house forever from now on. Kids N' Pets is cheap but obviously I got what I paid for. The more I've come across Nature's Miracle over the years, the less impressed I've been with their favorite lines. Anti-Icky-Poo (ugh) costs comparable and actually costs a few bucks less. Most importantly, it got the job done after the previous two failed, and it offers a lot more value than something that does what I need it to do the first time. I just wish it had a different name.
