I am new to a straight razor. I bought this sling based on other positive reviews that spoke of its quality and design compared to its modest price point. I am very happy with the design and the performance. But I've found that razor shaving takes a lot of learning, and it's important to watch a few YouTube videos on all aspects of razor shaving to get the hang of it. Stripping is no exception. For example, it is very important that the razor blade is placed squarely across the belt and not at an angle, as would be the case when sharpening a knife blade. If the blade does not lie flat on the belt, the edge of the blade will become severely blunt and may cut or otherwise damage the surface of the belt. As recommended by other reviews, I recommend using 1907 Strop Dressing to keep the leather supple and the belt travel smooth. And for the best shaving results, I've found that none of the razors I've bought really come out of the box. Before the first use, they must be carefully cut; and between uses; and a few strokes from time to time during each shave to get a really close shave.
