Review on ๐Ÿ“ธ Nikon SB-400 AF Speedlight Flash: Perfect Lighting Solution for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras by Josh Garber

Simply Better on Flash

If you're an avid, non-professional shooter and just need something with better fill than built in flash and bounce ability, the SB-400 is for you They HUGE value for $120. It works with any Nikon that uses the i-TTL system (all newer DSLRs and some point and shoot models). I have a D5000 and thanks to the bounce flash, the quality of my shots has improved a lot, especially when I'm shooting people indoors. Simply aim your flash at the ceiling or wall and everything will be filled with natural light. It works wonders for skin tones and colors in general. The looks are much better than the direct flash we see all too much in many people shots on Facebook, Flickr, etc. I have used it in many places like restaurants and bars with higher and dimmer lighting. colored ceilings and still reflected enough light onto the subject when the flash and low ISO were on in the camera. Direct watering outdoors also looks great. Compensation is incredibly well automatically controlled by the Nikon system. Of course, the larger models do all this with more power and versatility. However, they are much heavier, bulkier and more complex. Over 90% of DSLR photographers today just want to have fun and get great results. Most people (myself included) aren't interested in making dozens of adjustments for every situation, let alone having the technical knowledge to figure it all out. Big flashes give you even more decision-making power if your camera is better at it to begin with. The good thing about the SB-400 is that it has NO controls and a fully controllable size. I basically leave mine plugged in all the time and it never bothers. The battery life is also definitely okay. I usually have to change the AA every 5-6 heavy use sessions. You are properly warned that the recycling process will start with a delay as the power drops and the LED will flash steadily when it is complete. If there's one must-have accessory for a Nikon DSLR, this is it. Before you start buying faster lenses and prettier bodies, add a reflective flash to your setup and you're good to go!
