Reasonable cost is of course one of the reasons. But more importantly for me... I have several camera traps in the hunting woods. I used to have a blank SD card with me for each camera. I would take the card out of the camera (to take home and see) and replace it with a blank card. I would do that with every camera. So I had to have twice as many SD cards as cameras. With this card reader I can view the photos on each card on my phone and/or copy them from the card to my phone. I then remove the photos from the card and put them back in the camera. This has made the process of checking my cameras a lot easier. I highly recommend this card reader.
