We bought this for our 3 year old and it's fantastic. A simple, minimalist screen, colorful buttons that are easy for them to use, and a rechargeable battery so we're not wasteful. I loaded her music in before we gave it to her with no problems. We haven't turned her mic on yet (love that there's a button to turn it off!). It's well designed. Things like a USB port hidden behind the back cover to prevent your child from pulling out a USB drive you've inserted stories or music in shows thought went into the design. It's solidly built without being heavy. The sound is good, and if you buy children's headphones, you can adjust the volume in them. We are so happy with this purchase.
