I've read several reviews that say it's not related to the registration code. I received mine recently and it was on a sticker on the inside of the front case cover. My advice is to download the software from the website and then buy the disc here. For me it was cheaper than buying on their website. The software is amazing. It basically configures most POE cameras itself. Do yourself a favor and google how to set up additional streams for your cameras. This saves you a lot of space and headaches. I have a pretty decent system, but it was very sluggish and stuck trying to capture high-resolution video all the time. Set up additional streams and set cameras to record when motion is detected. They record in high definition when they detect motion but don't slow down your system at other times. Overall, this was definitely an upgrade from the NightOwl system I had previously (which recently stopped working).
