For a while, I made my decision. I originally intended to get a high-tech tiny camera because it will be used for basic family portraits. However the outcome of the soap dish wasn't particularly appealing indoors (where I most frequently shot). They suggested I start with a basic DSLR. A chance existed for certain cameras to be tested at home (canon 1000d, sony a290 and nikon). I fell in love with Nikon right away. I haven't had a single regret regarding the purchase thus far (about a month from the date of purchase). Perfect for me, a novice! Score 5!
