Review on Wago Push Wire Wall Nut Assortment: Efficient Solution for Industrial Electrical Needs by Manuel Gfx

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Large connector set, 8-port fantastic

Some aged), previous owners have made some interesting wiring upgrades over the years. Nothing overtly dangerous, fortunately, but more along the lines of "What were you thinking?" I've made it my mission to replace the old and worn cables with modern ones, replacing the 14-gauge cables with 12-gauge ones. Replace cables and organize all connections to be cleaner and less messy. One of the drawers in the attic had several hot wire connections made with a bunch of wire nuts connected together (4 wires per nut, three wires go to different outlets and switches, and the fourth wire is connected to another nut with a similar configuration) inside a box. All the neutrals were assembled and (poorly) crimped and glued. I had several wire nuts as well as several Ideal push-in connectors and Wago 221 2, 3 and 5 port connectors, but I wanted to avoid stringing multiple nuts/connectors together in series to make a connection. Wago Connector 773. 8-port connectors are great for connecting a large number of wires in a common connection. The ugly rat's nest of wires and interlocking wire nuts has been replaced with three (one each for hot, neutral and ground) 8-port 773 for a cleaner and more organized box. The smaller plugs also come in handy when I don't feel like twisting the nuts, but when I only need to splice two wires I prefer the Wago 221 for its lever to make it easier to insert or remove wires. , strong and reliable connections to 14 and 12 gauge wiring, are UL listed and rated for higher currents than the wiring and circuit breaker so I have no qualms about using them. To make sure they were safe, I connected a 1500W heater to a circuit powered by one of the 773's connectors and observed the temperature of the cable and connector with a thermal imager. There was a slight temperature difference between the 773 and a wire nut I also tested with the same heater so I feel completely safe using it on 20A circuits in my home where I wouldn't otherwise use wire nuts.

Pros
  • Spade lugs 18-12 AWG solid (16-12 stranded)
Cons
  • Slightly cracked
