This *Minnetonka Men's Moosehide Weekend Moccasin* [similar to moccasins] is the best shoe I've ever tried. They are made of elk leather, which feels thick, durable and soft compared to other leather and leather-like materials. This elk leather is even used to make some pretty deep insoles which seem to go a long way towards giving these shoes a very soft, smooth and silent walk. I've tried them on a variety of surfaces from flat dirt, grass and concrete to coarse dirt, grass and concrete to tile, wood and concrete floors. And with these shoes you can walk lightly, softly, quietly and silently on all surfaces. And that despite the fact that they have a hard-wearing, non-slip sole both under the heel and in the forefoot. These distinct areas of the outsole appear to provide a precise, adaptive, natural tread roll-off to help you step over any surface. The heel areas of the outsole taper up the back of the heel for added stiffness and protection, as do the front soles to protect the front areas of the toes. . In my opinion these extra areas add even FINE to the style of this particular shoe which has great slim lines aided by stylish yet durable stitching which contrasts nicely with the natural fine grain elk leather. The shoes are slightly lowered, which adds elegance and makes it easier to put on and take off, like slippers. And they will prove to be great boat shoes despite the custom [boat boot] tread that is very slip resistant to help with very light rolling steps, perfect for a removable deck or dock. They run a bit small, probably due to the rather thick and soft insoles. I have a *Caramel Moose*, half a size larger than my usual standard size, and they fit well with the cords tied as tight as possible, but now they're a bit loose, making them very soft and very quiet slippers. I then bought *Chocolate Moose* in my regular size, which fits perfectly and stays in place thanks to the deck shoe-like leather laces I use to hold these deck shoe-like shoes like cozy slip-ons++++
