I originally bought a Sonos Playbar 2 years ago as part of a 5.1 system with a subwoofer and 2 2nd gen Play 5s. Unfortunately, the Playbar is not compatible with Apple Airplay 2. Even worse, while the second-gen Play 5 is Airplay 2 compatible, the Play 5 will not work with Airplay 2 when connected to a 5.1 system with a Playbar. In short, I had to connect Apple devices to my Sonos system to listen to anything other than music (movies, streaming, games, DJ and VJ software, just about anything). The Airplay 2 is perfect for this, which is why I ended up buying a game base to replace my gamepad. The game base is much more aesthetically pleasing than the game bar. I bought a Sanus swivel TV stand to use with my gaming stand, which I highly recommend if you're like me and don't find a speaker mounted TV that appealing. The two hardly differ in terms of sound. it's not amazing. I think the gaming base handles low ranges a little better and is a little more attractive overall. I especially notice this when making music: my Play 5s seemed to overwhelm my game bar, especially when I cranked up the volume. The Playbase seems to compete well with the Play 5 when playing music at high volume. Last thing I noticed about the Playbase is that the Playbase has less latency, maybe because it's a newer product from Sonos? Switching songs in the Sonos app and switching from TV mode to playing music seems faster overall.
