Review on Monster Jamz Headphones Discontinued Manufacturer by Janet Scollins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I heard better.

I remember seeing the new Sony MD Walkman for the first time in 1999 and thinking "These headphones are new and unique”. Turns out they only came with this player and a few other high-end Sony players. Fast forward to 2004 and headphones are finally here. At the time, I thought $50 was a lot for new headphones, especially these little ones. I gritted my teeth and bought them anyway and they were incredibly impressive. Amazing sound quality combined with great comfort. two things that don't often come with headphones and are still relevant today. My good friend buys these monsters here on the open market for over $100, I berate him for paying that much without trying my legendary Sonys first. But after trying the Jamz and listening to some of the "core" albums we both own, I had to admit they sound great. Online prices are great, we all know that, so I ordered it from Revain last week, received it this afternoon and have been listening non-stop for about three hours. My rating here is tempered by the fact that the Monster documentation and several reviewers here speak of "hacking" or "burning" it with constant use. I give them three months and expect them to sound more balanced after that. My #1 fault right now is the crazy lack of bass. Now I'm by no means a bass junkie, many friends at home and in the car complain about the lack of bass, so I know what I want to "hear" from great headphones. Until they are no longer enough. Crisp highs and mids are very evident and comfort is excellent, if not too heavy. Excellent construction and quality cables/wiring, great looks. The tangle-free "long" cord is perfect for your MP3 player. In any case . I will be posting an update next month to see if the Jamz has a burn-in period for better performance. Until then, I would only recommend them to audiophiles who crave clarity in the high and midrange. more balanced sound.
