Review on TYT MD-UV380: Ultimate Dual Band VHF UHF DMR Handheld Walkie Talkie by Michael Custodio

Great little DMR radio

Initially I only used it for DMR use. Haven't used this for regular analog VHF/UHF yet. As with all DMR radios, setup and programming is very different from analog VHF/UHF radios, I got a code plug from local repeater owners and made a few tweaks to it, but basically it just worked the way they did it . I haven't spent time changing the code plugin to use analog repeaters yet. I need to do this, but I have a few other good HTs for it, so I don't have much of a need for it right now. The quality of the radio is much better than I thought. The sound is loud enough for me, and I didn't find any really big negatives in it. The instructions are terrible, but that's to be expected, so I can't really fault him for that. I would certainly buy one more of these and honestly I might buy one for my dad I think he will have a good time with it and it would be nice to use when we camp together. From what I've seen so far, the digital signal seems to have a clearer signal over longer distances and through things. I can get my signal from my basement to a DMR repeater much better than I can get my analog UHF/VHF to the same peaks with repeaters. Overall I think it was a great purchase and I would do it again.
