Unlike some other Meidase security cameras, this one runs on 12VDC (not 6VDC), but the connector size is the same. This version is also different in that this version plays video OR images (not image pack, then video). It records audio and saves videos in MPEG-4 format for you to play on your Android device (other versions are saved in AVI format, which needs to be converted). I'm powered by an external 12V DC battery which is housed in a waterproof plastic box so I can't comment on the AA battery life but it uses 8 of them like the 6V DC models so you get half the amp hours. but maybe it is. more energy efficient? We have only looked at 2 records, but so far we are quite satisfied.
