Review on πŸ“· Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM Lens: Precision and Clarity, Lens Only by Kathryn Brown

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing of camera and photo

I am a professional wedding photographer and have been shooting full time since 2002. I've been using prime lenses for 10 years and I typically use two 5 Mark III lenses. . The 35L Mark I was my most used lens; About 50 percent of the pictures I send to clients are made with it. Another 25 percent is deducted from the 85LII, with the rest divided equally between the 135L, 50L and 24LII. I only dare to go below f/2 if it is necessary, because none of the lenses mentioned above deliver critical sharpness at an open aperture. These are amazing lenses, of course, but they're not as sharp as I'd like them to be. And yes, they are all micro-adjustable. 35 The 1.4 II is simply a different world from Canon's other L-series prime lenses from 24mm to 135mm. It felt like I put on glasses when I started looking at the files. It's just as sharp as the old 2.8. Fringing is almost non-existent and it helps to focus in dimly lit areas with my 5d3 cameras wide open 90% of the time compared to about 65% of the time with the old camera (we're talking about ISO 3200, 1/100 , f/1.4 - so little ambient light). Color and contrast are great. It's an expensive lens but in its class and I'm very happy with it. It's bigger than the old version and seems a bit more reliable. I used a Sigma Art lens, which appeared almost as sharp, but focus accuracy wasn't as good in poorly lit reception areas.
