This is a great camera with fantastic build quality. I won't go into too much detail on the many things I love about this camera, they have already been detailed in these reviews. Suffice it to say that the lens and sensor are perfectly matched. I have never had images that are so closely connected to my mind's eye, to my memories of scenes and events from the past. They say the eye sees somewhere around 45mm, but I'm pretty sure at 35mm the heart and mind remember everything. The 35mm lens is one of the best lenses ever made. For that reason alone it's worth it to me. The controls are also well placed. When you have time to prepare your shot - and don't have to rely on autofocus - it's just a dream. But as much as I love this camera, it's far from perfect. First, there's evidence that Sony salvaged some parts and dials by making them out of plastic where metal should have been (like the battery door). and rear rotary switch). It's weird and ruins the charm of a brilliant design. The lack of weather protection is also a real problem if, like me, you occasionally shoot in the rain, but these are forgivable shortcomings. More forgiving than the cheap build quality and poor design of the optional digital viewfinder (FDAEV1MK) - which for all its drawbacks is still a must-have accessory. Firmware update to fix this issue for the lifetime of this camera (as of June 2014). It says something odd about the software culture at Sony. I can only assume that the CyberShot team has significantly fewer resources compared to other imaging teams. Or maybe they're busy working on the RX2. Anyway, it's a shame that such an expensive (yet popular!) camera is going to the pastures so soon. Sony should take a page from Apple's book and show more love to the current owners. Finally, it might be worth highlighting the lackluster battery life - although that's a minor thing that can be easily mitigated by purchasing a few extra batteries. I strongly recommend that you DO NOT leave home with less than 3 fully charged batteries for any length of time. I would recommend that you stick with the Sony NP-BX1 and don't try to save a few bucks on something so important by spending that much money on the camera itself. I would also like to recommend a half case. made by Ulysses, a Japan based company that is excellent. Their website is a bit hard to find, last time I checked them out I ran them on Facebook but their RX1/R case is really well made, has a clean and functional design with an integrated handle which makes handling considerably improved.
