Review on ❄️ Engel ENG50 White High Performance Cooler by William Dean

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great as long as there is tension on the latches

When I first got the cool box I did a test with some ice packs and a block of ice. I was very disappointed that it melted faster than expected. By the second day between a third and a half of the ice had melted - not what I expected based on all the reviews I read. In the closed position, the latches were loose and there wasn't much tension. I've tried the paper test, which involves placing a piece of paper in the sealing area of the cooler (tightening the piece of paper between the lid and the rim of the cooler opening) with the lid closed. With some effort I managed to pull the sheet metal out of the radiator in the area of the latches at the front. It wasn't sealed properly in that area. I loosened the screws on the latches and slightly adjusted the position of the latches. The fittings had an easy game both above and below. I moved the top hardware up a bit and the bottom hardware down a bit. I did this with both locks. After all the screws were tightened, I tried to close the latches; it made a thud as I pushed the latches all the way down to close the lid—exactly what I was hoping for. Now there is more tension on the ties. I did a paper test and couldn't get the paper out. We used it on an 11 day trip in May. We start with 1/3 of the cooler filled with ice at the bottom and the rest of the space is occupied by food. We bought ice cream every 5 days to supplement. After 11 days, half of the original ice was still at the bottom of the cooler. This kept the food cold and none of it spoiled. It worked very well.
