Review on πŸ”Š Philips AS140/37 Fidelio Bluetooth Speaker with Micro-USB Dock: Premium Wireless Audio Experience by Leticia Ellis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A decent solution if your micro USB port is centrally located. It's bad if not. But Android doesn't cope well with docking.

A serious problem with this product is not really a Philips fault. Android phone developers are responsible for using Micro USB. I'm not sure about the iPhone 5 with the new Lightning connector, but the old Firewire connector was good for docking for two reasons. 1) It was wide and strong and provided a good base to hold the iPhone upright and secure. 2) It transmitted power AND data to charge your phone and didn't require Bluetooth or a separate cable. The problem with Micro USB as a docking solution is that from the above it doesn't work. It is small and very difficult to connect. It's also too short to safely support the phone's weight, and it only transmits power, not data. again and again from the male end of the micro USB on the docking station. I have a rezound and the port is on the bottom left. I have to support it with a contact lens case to keep it from falling. I also had a RAZR with a connector on top of the phone. It would be workable, but strange. In addition, the design is very attractive, the sound is quite good and it is quite easy to work with. However, the Fidelio app is pretty dumb. The iPhone also docks better here. When you connect your iPhone to a music-enabled dock, it will be recognized as such and you can automatically play music on it without doing anything else. In this case, you have a dumb application that should work in the notification area all the time. These are USB sticks. So if you plug it into any USB port, it will try to connect to Fidelio. This means when I'm listening to podcasts on my LG Tone at work and plugging it into USB for charging, it disconnects my LG Tone and tries to connect to Fidelio. My other option is to ask me every time, but then every time I connect to the micro USB port it asks me if I want to connect or just charge. I choose this later option because it's less intrusive. In short, if you have a phone with a micro-USB port centered on the side or bottom (maybe top), this is a pretty good solution. It's not as sleek as the iPhone, but it's reliable.
