Review on Opsak Barrier 7 X7 3Pk by Christopher Tillman

I've tested these bags pretty thoroughly and have concluded that they aren't airtight or odor proof. In both areas, they roughly correspond to zip-top freezer bags, but the plastic is significantly thicker and therefore more durable. I haven't checked if they are waterproof. My Test: I used Esbit solid fuel cubes which have a fairly strong odor so I wanted the bag to be odor proof and also so my weak human nose could detect the smell coming out of the bag. . First, I washed my hands thoroughly. Then, with my bare hands, I opened a regular zippered bag and leaned it against the table. I then put on new nitrile gloves and placed a few cubes of solid fuel (still in the original foil-sealed vials) in the open pouch without touching the outside of the pouch. I then removed the nitrile gloves and threw them away without even touching the outside of the gloves (aseptic technique). Then I sealed the ziploc bag with my bare hands without touching the inside (where the cubes were). So now I had a ziplock bag with dice inside and no mess on the outside. Then I put this bag in the opsak, removed the excess air and sealed the opsak. I then transferred the opsac to another ziplock bag, bled out the excess air and sealed it. This outer pouch increases the concentration of odor molecules on the outside of the opsac, allowing me to smell small amounts passing through the opsac. I waited a few days and then went back to the three-ply bag. First thing I noticed was that air was getting into the opsak because it was a bit swollen when I left it. I then opened the outer ziplock bag without opening the opsac and smelled a strong smell of Esbite cubes. Thus, air exchange is clearly taking place, allowing air to enter the opsak and odor to exit the opsak. I repeated this experiment, making sure all three bags were securely sealed and not causing contamination, and did the same with other scents, all with the same results. These bags are probably only dirty on the outside of the bag, but I've been careful handling it and am familiar with laboratory and medical work and know how to maintain a sterile barrier so my hands or the outside of the bag doesn't get contaminated with it odor particles. I'm sure these bags are not smell proof. When trying to discourage animals from eating, remember that their noses are much more sensitive than ours and only truly smell-proof barriers will stop them.
