I wouldn't buy this for a teenager. My second grader thought the pendant was very pretty because it was shiny and she loved giving her friend the same necklace, but there were obvious defects in the workmanship and both chains broke almost immediately. Even after repair, the chains are so weak and poorly made that they just don't stay intact. We bought a new chain (real jewelry chain = $) and it hasn't broken in a day. I hope her friend's parents won't curse me too loudly when their daughter finds out about it and demands a new, higher-quality chain for her trashy charm. Definitely a novelty for a young child. Not designed to last and will not withstand normal wear and tear. For what I paid for a decent chain, it would have been better to spend more, at least for a mid-range set of charms.
