Review on 🐱 Optimized Royal Canin Thin Slices in Gravy Wet Kitten Food for Feline Health Nutrition by Julie Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good food for older kittens, much better recipe than the 'loaf in gravy' version

We introduced Royal Canin to my previous cat who needed their single source protein version to deal with some issues with her sensitive stomach deal with. We now have a new kitten and we knew we would stay with Royal Canin. Our choice was reinforced when I found catinfo.org, which has an excellent document listing all the major brands and their actual nutritional values (as opposed to the intentionally vague "Assay Guaranteed" numbers on labels); Royal Canin Kitten Foods were among the best available and had a near perfect protein/fat/carb ratio. Please note that this is one of TWO varieties of Royal Canin's Kitten Instinctive food; the other is called Loaf in Gravy, and in my opinion, this option is much worse when you compare the ingredients. In this version of Thin Slices, chicken, chicken liver, and pork are the first three ingredients, and by-products and wheat don't appear until the fifth or sixth ingredient. In contrast, the loaf in sauce version starts right off with chicken by-products as the first ingredient, wheat is not far behind, and real chicken/internal meat is mentioned much further down the list. This is doubly surprising as Royal Canin Stage 1 Kitten Food (for kittens under 4 months) is ALSO called Loaf in Gravy and has the same ingredients/priority as Stage 2 Thin Slices. food and ingredients. In the end, what counts is whether the kitten really likes it or not. Well my boy Kiba definitely loves this food. He eagerly waits for his bowl to fill up and dives in as soon as I put him down, even if it's the last portion from the glass and still cold from the fridge. We will definitely be sticking with this food (as well as RC Stage 2 Kitten Food; he currently eats 1 can of wet food per day and about 3/8 cup of food) until he is an adult and ready to switch to kitten food. Kitten. the next level of the meal (although we can just leave it at that forever, as adult meals tend to be more carbohydrate-biased and lower in protein and fat). And be sure to shop here at Revain; The flats they ship are nowhere near past their sell by date and the price is lower than what I've found at Petco or other pet stores.
