Review on Enhanced Viewing Experience with the Viewsonic VP191B ThinEdge HD LCD Monitor by Guy Tbone

I had no plans to buy a new monitor but my Vivitron21 CRT eventually broke and I had to replace it. Friends who already have LCD monitors swear by them, so I looked it up and settled on the VP191B. I've had him for about 2 weeks and so far he's doing great. As I edit home video, I was a little apprehensive about the setup as the monitor rotation software drivers are not certified for Windows, at least not for XP (the installation instructions will ask you to agree to the installation, even if you get a warning that it may not be safe is - I put a star for that). Luckily I didn't have any problems with Pinnacle Studio or Muvee AutoProducer - preview and preview work fine. Another minor complaint is that the Pivot software has slower response times when you right-click on the desktop to bring up the context menu. - Various rotation options are now listed right in this menu, which is handy, but it takes a few extra seconds for the popup to appear (it's not that much as long as you're not wondering why the cursor is stuck on an hourglass that gave it never). Other comments are consistent with previous reviewers - a bright, clear picture, optimal monitor price-to-size ratio, ease of use, etc. A rotating monitor works for surfing the Internet and text documents. Great. Of course, that doesn't help much when you're editing a widescreen video! And it can confuse the next person if you leave the monitor rotated - the last rotation setting is saved, but it doesn't take effect immediately upon loading, so the initial images appear rotated. However, they run small. niggles at an otherwise satisfactory purchase. I definitely recommend it for its performance and size if you're looking for a new monitor and don't want to spend a thousand or more on a larger monitor but are willing to shell out the extra money for the lighter weight and small form factor.
