Review on πŸ“Έ Enhanced Pixel Pro SD-9 Compatible External Flash Battery Pack for Nikon SB-900 and SB900 Flashgun by Ben Robinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality and functionality

This is my second Pixel Pro battery. Both devices work perfectly. I also have an original Nikon SD-9 battery. Pixel Pro devices appear to be just as effective at almost 1/4 the price (via Revain). The overall build quality of the Nikon device is slightly better and the battery door latch is easier to use. However, the function determined by the recharge time is practically the same as that of Nikon. Flash charge time at full power (manual power setting) is approximately 1 second for Pixel and Nikon devices (8 AA batteries installed) and approximately 3 seconds using only the internal SB-900 batteries. I also have two SD-9A 6 cell AA clones (Shoot brand) with side battery charging. When I bought them, they were almost half the price of Pixel devices. However the battery doors appear flimsy (6 cell units) and need care when closing and are difficult to open with charged batteries. This is a downside compared to the tray used in Nikon and Pixel designs and uses fewer batteries. The recharge time of the 6-cell clones doesn't appear to be much improved compared to the flash's internal batteries alone (about 3 seconds with or without the battery connected). Both Nikon and Pixel work with 4 or 8 AA batteries. I haven't had any failures with any of these battery packs, but I'm very careful with my gear. Based on build quality, I would rank the Nikon and Pixel devices as the best. All devices are powered by Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries. Everything I use is off camera and the Pocketwizard FlexTT5 manages the wireless connection in my portable studio. I rarely use flash on my camera. The only downside to this battery pack is the lack of a strap to attach it to the stands. This attaches easily with the velcro that I keep in my bag next to the tape. As others have said this can also be used to form a belt loop for use on the camera. But even in an expensive Nikon device, the valve sometimes requires the addition of a velcro strap to attach it to the gear. Bottom line, Pixel units perform just as well as Nikon and way better than other brands. In my opinion, Pixel devices offer the best value for money. As of this writing, the photo posted by Revain does not match the unit I purchased. The Pixel Pro device does not have an additional PC connector on the cable. The SB-900/910 can only use a 3-pin connector with an auxiliary power connector.
