I recently purchased this product and I am still very happy with it. It looks good, the shelf can be installed on either side of the unit or not used at all. It has built in 1020 joules surge protection to protect your electronics. The unit is held in place by a long screw that goes through the unit and screws into the wall outlet between the two outlets (where your old outlet cover screw went). For this reason it cannot be used with a GFCI socket as the reset and test buttons are in the middle of the two sockets, not on the screw. I just installed this so time will tell the quality of the manufacturers. if it lasts
