Disappointed with performance

As my still working Radio Shack Weather Radio is over 30 years old I purchased this product to add to my existing radio and as a possible replacement. With the antenna fully extended, with and without using the power supply, I could not see the NOAA frequency anywhere in my house, even when placed next to my Radio Shack and tuned to the same NOAA frequency. All I got was noise and maybe a word or two being transmitted. I left my area to climb higher and near the NOAA transmission towers to improve line of sight reception, but still just got static. Tuning for AM and FM was easy enough, but sound quality was poor. Rather than agonize over the return process, I gifted this purchase to my child to try at home. Otherwise, it will be donated to another child of ours who lives closer to downtown and is well served by the NOAA tower. We wish you good luck. Operation of this product may require it to be in close proximity to a NOAA broadcast tower; However, I cannot in good conscience recommend this device as I have never gotten it to work for me.
