Shower stereo

I bought two of these to use the wireless stereo function. I use them in the shower and play radio and Bluetooth content from my phone. Firstly the quality and performance for the price is excellent and deserves 5 stars. (Sharper Image sells a very similar model for $99 a pair.) Sound quality is very good for a small speaker. It is strongest in the lower midrange. Ups and downs are not strong. This is fine for most everyday listening. I haven't tried it as a party speaker or in a large room. The lack of highs means it doesn't handle shower noise well. Despite the flaws, this is an excellent column for its price. The build quality is very good, materials and controls are of high quality. The suction cup mount works great on tiles. The red LED display is easy to read (especially compared to another shower speaker I have that has an LCD display which is difficult to read without really good lighting). The stereo connection worked like a charm on the first try. I followed the instructions to connect one to my phone and then two to each other. True stereo sound. When used in stereo mode, adjusting the volume of one of the speakers will also affect the other speaker, and turning off one will automatically turn off the other. (Stereo pairing only works with Bluetooth; you won't hear FM radio in stereo even if both speakers are on.) Radio reception is very good. It comes with a small FM antenna that plugs into the 3.5mm connector (you cannot use the antenna when the speaker is submerged in water). The auto scan is too sensitive - it shows frequencies with a bad signal that should be skipped. Like other similar devices, it scans the FM band and creates presets automatically. But you can't go directly to a preset - you have to press the button multiple times until you get to your station. It's a pain when you want to go from 88.5 to 103.5 and have to press the button 26 times. I only use them for about 5-15 minutes at a time but I use them almost every day and so far I've spent 6 weeks on the original charge. Colored LED light is a small feature that works, but I'd happily forgo the price cut. They can be set to three modes: automatically switching all colors, pulsing depending on the music, or setting a single color. However, every time you turn them on, they always run in a loop. It would be nice if it stayed with the last setting. The buttons are embossed with symbols. If you have poor vision nearby, you will not be able to see these symbols. It would be better to paint them black for contrast.

Pros
  • Bluetooth portable speakers
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
