Tennis smells awful

These tennis balls smell awful. The smell upon opening the jar is overpowering, chemical, causes a headache. It might not matter if you just want to hit tennis balls, but I didn't buy them for tennis. I bought these to fluff up my fluffy clothes in the dryer and I doubt the smell would allow for that. I'll probably have to get something else.
