We have had these travertine coasters for a long time and use them regularly. I like the look of natural stone, little pockmarks that aren't a rough or uneven surface. They're heavy enough not to get sucked up against a fogged glass (99% of the time) but on rare occasions the cork backing completely covers the lid so the rock didn't damage my glass coffee table. I think the coolest thing that struck me when we first got these coasters is that they are inherently absorbent to a degree. I don't know how it works scientifically, but I do know that with our old coasters, any cold glass would create a puddle of condensation that I had to constantly wipe and drain off the edges of the coaster. You don't have this problem unless there is LOTS of condensation, for example a full 32 ounce glass of ice water will likely result in a wet coaster, but a small glass or cold can of soda won't at all! I think if travertine has natural absorbency the moisture should evaporate over time. I have no idea, but it's exciting. The only downside to this is that we spilled some dark soda on a coaster and soaked it up a bit so the coaster is now painted a little darker than the others, like a light spot, but not so much that it looks damaged or worn set to. .
