It must be a bad batch, or it's just bad quality!
I see another reviewer had the same problem as me. When I first plugged it in and turned it on, the soldering tip got so hot it turned bright red, I heard a slight "pop" then the LED went out and died. Not worth sending back so I threw it away and will try another brand.
