Working but with some limitations

This device extracts audio from HDMI but there are some limitations you need to be aware of. Front panel that allows you to choose one of three modes: Pass, 2.0, 5.1. Each of these modes greatly affects the operation of the device. If analog audio is to be output from the RCA L/R outputs, you must either set it to 2.0 mode or play a source that only has 2-channel audio. . If the HDMI source contains 5.1 audio and the switch is in the Pass or 5.1 position, you will not get audio from the analog outputs. Setting the device to 2.0 mode will also result in the HDMI and S/PDIF audio being output as 2 channels, even if the source material is in 5.1, 7.1 or other surround format. So you can't run a surround signal through the device AND still have a working analogue output. To make this a little clearer, any audio entering the device is sent to all compatible outputs, and all outputs are from the same source. However, since the analog outputs cannot carry surround sound, the analog outputs will be disabled when the device is receiving multi-channel audio. The switch doesn't really affect the internal functionality; It's just a way of telling the source video device what audio formats are supported, and thus influencing what audio format is sent to the device. No downmix is performed. Everything is fine with this device. Nothing fantastic. He's just doing his job. And once you understand the limitations of this type of design, you'll get a better idea of what it can and can't do. It would have been nice if it did an auto-shuffle from 5.1 to 2.0, but that would have required a much higher end product. So if you can live with the limitations outlined, this might work well for you.

Pros
  • Audio and video accessories
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Quite easy to use. I have an older stereo with optical sound so this works great.
