DANGER - AVOID!

I bought this item in January but only used it last week. I have a large bike but the handlebar description fits it. And while at first I didn't think it would fit when I got it and was almost going to send it back, I realized that once it's fully stripped and placed correctly on the bike it will fit. But it was definitely stretched to its maximum length, and the point at which the inner bar, attached by a strong spring, touched the outer bar obviously sagged a bit when placed on the rack. But I lifted the bike several times with my hands on that pivot, and it seemed to hold up. And that was for the ride up. But on the way back it's good. look at the pictures. The bike was perfectly balanced and the weight evenly distributed on the rack, but the two pieces still fell apart and the bike slid off. Luckily I tied the bike down with some cables and bandages to keep it from falling over, but if that had happened the failure of this product could have killed someone. To be honest I cannot confirm the durability of this product unless used to its maximum length. However it should of course be able to handle what it was designed for no matter how long it is stretched and to be clear I haven't modified it in any way, I've just increased it to the maximum length allowed . For these reasons, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND anyone reading this to look elsewhere if you need some form of tie-down bar for your bike to use on a luggage rack. As I said earlier, I am not exaggerating when I suggest that this product could have been responsible for someone's death. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
