They are thick enough to withstand metal parts without breaking. I mainly use them for storing screws and related hardware, which they're great for. The 4x6 is big enough to hold the various pieces of gear that came from taking something apart and hold it together without loss until the necessary parts arrive and you can put it back together. Also great for spares, you can just stick these on a box or whatever and find them when you need them later. I use the smaller versions to keep small nuts and bolts etc organized, but they take up a lot less space than a plastic box with separate parts. Really very comfortable, and the thinner versions you find just don't make it that way.
