I bought these binoculars for my nephew and I think he will like it. This is serious binoculars, not just a toy. They appear to be well constructed and have good enough optics for the price. I don't think they break easily. They are intended for people of short stature (under 14 years of age), as the maximum eye relief is small, but they are also significantly lighter than normal adult binoculars. (I have a big head and can barely see through both eyepieces at their widest setting.) They will be really good for getting the boy outside and seeing the world and learning about him. The only issue I have with these binoculars is that the rubber eyecups that surround the eyepieces are a bit difficult to fold down to provide a better view for children who wear glasses. They fold to bring the glasses closer to the eyepiece lenses, but leaving them folded isn't easy. Therefore, children who wear glasses may need to fold the eyecups several times before they remain folded. However, I doubt young children will notice. This is a good choice for most kids, especially for the price.
