I like the way it looks, not like the shiny plastic look but more like woven and some kind of natural material. An important feature for me was that it is waterproof. Ice water in an abandoned jar (common in our home) will form condensation, but it will remain on the surface of the carpet. It stands out as a shiny stain, but is easily cleaned with a paper towel. And until the mats curl up and hold their shape like new. Even cups with hot liquid are no problem. Haven't tried anything hotter. Personally, I would have preferred the size to be an inch larger in either direction. On the big table they look a bit lost.
