Review on 🌞 Highly Efficient Sunco Lighting Outdoor Dimmable Bulb: The Best Equivalent for Illuminating Open Spaces by Nicolai Goler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Bright; great color. I went back and bought a few more.

My home office has 7 lights on the ceiling which were just right when it had 75w incandescent bulbs (we're talking 24 years ago). Since then, affordable incandescent bulbs have only gotten worse in terms of wattage and light output, but until recently BR30 LED bulbs were even worse. When I saw that they were rated at 850 lumens I had to give it a try. Wow what a difference! I immediately bought more because our kitchen is also lit with tin can lamps. I have a light meter so I mounted the sensor about 1.20m under one of the office lights and measured with just one bulb: 65w BR30 bulb with 710 lumens: 160 lux* This 11w LED replacement with 850 lumens: 230 lux*, 44% increase. and after all the bulbs are lit: 65W Incandescent: 215 lux* 11W LED: 371 lux*, an amazing jump of 72.5%. As I explain below*, reading directly in front of the lamp is not everything. That's why I placed the sensor off-center, in the middle between two light bulbs in the kitchen. These LED bulbs clearly have the same or better spread compared to incandescent bulbs, as the improvement was even greater off-center than in the center. These are really great pears. Their dimmability is fair: they flicker noticeably below about 25% with my old-school TRIAC dimmers (FET dimmers might work better). They need to be raised above 50% and then lowered, which I don't really care about. The color of the light stays the same at low levels, unlike filaments which glow orange at low levels. None of this affected my rating because I didn't buy it to black out. There are more sophisticated LED bulbs with a wider dimming range and color changes to match incandescent bulbs; it's not like this. The lumens per watt (77) are not outstanding, but very good for LEDs with a warm color temperature. And kitchens are 72% brighter at less than 1/5 the wattage, enough for me to give that full score for efficiency as well. [* - Lumen is the total output of the light source, while Lux is the light per unit area. A spotlight directly in front of it will show higher illuminance than a spotlight with the same lumens because the light is concentrated in a smaller area. If the LEDs had bad dispersion, the reading difference in the kitchen would be less than in the office.]

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly dented
