Review on SVBONY SV165 Mini Guide Scope 30mm F4 Finder Scope: Ideal for SV305 Pro, ZWO, QHY, and Orion Auto Guiding Cameras by Joshua Ford

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Has some good aspects, BUT.

First of all I'm reviewing this on the basis of the most basic knowledge, since I only received it yesterday and I haven't brought it to light yet, so in the next few months I will be able to check some more user observations to add and so I'll limit my comments to assembly and ease of setup. Build quality feels economical, but not necessarily cheap. The product's light weight suggests bi-metal rather than machined aluminum, which can be an advantage in terms of added weight, but can be a disadvantage in terms of reliability and long-term use. The set screw is really too short to attach an eyepiece, camera or similar as mentioned in at least one other review. I solved this problem by stealing another piece of hardware, but the set screw is unacceptable. The focusing mechanism is quite cumbersome as you have to screw the entire front of the guide sight outwards to get the right focus and after unscrewing it to the correct distance you have to unscrew the outer ring back from the main body to close the hydoscope lock space. This process must be repeated for each focus check until the desired sharpness is achieved. With these aspects I can only award 3 stars at the moment; If used, I sincerely hope that this product will show the ability to get a higher rating.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Some little things

Sturdy scope, but hard to get in focus.
