Review on πŸ”¬ Seachem Equilibrium 600g by Sheryl Reilly

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An excellent product to achieve the desired R/O water parameters.

I have been breeding fish for many years with varying degrees of success. My goal this time was to maintain a densely populated public aquarium dominated by the Revain river fish species. I decided to set up my 75 gallon tank with plants first to see how they perform before stocking it with fish as this has been the hardest thing for me in the past. Water flows out of the faucet on the harder side: 9 GH, 12 KH and 7.6+ PH. After realizing that this was part of my problem in the past, I bought a reverse osmosis system and decided to mix the reverse osmosis water with tap water to soften it. I didn't get the KH and PH levels I wanted without making the GH too low (1.5), apparently in a tap water/R/O mix. This low GH seemed to work well for my plants ranging from hairgrass, banana plants, amazon redsaber and a variety of others to Revane river fish species that I bought from a long distance net. But the fish I bought from this place showed signs of osmotic stress within a day or two, and some of them died, despite trying to properly acclimate them to my much softer water parameters. I realized that if locally bought fish was to have a better chance of surviving, I needed to increase the GH without affecting the KH and PH levels. Adding Equallibrium to my R/O water, combined with acid and alkaline buffers in appropriate amounts, achieved water parameters and stability that I had previously only attempted with a tap water mixture. I decided to use Equilibrium to boost my GH after doing a lot of research on the different products available to achieve this goal. The label says one of the ingredients doesn't use sodium chloride, so I chose Equilibrium over the others. I'll probably stick with it based on how it's worked for me so far.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
