Review on 🚢 Battleship Construction: Submarine and Helicopter Building Kit by Matthew Augustin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

There's a lot to build but wow the instructions need a lot of help

Bought for my 6 year old and spent the weekend building an aircraft carrier and one of the planes. The pieces are compatible (but not the same color) as LEGO branded products. So when I accidentally lost a piece, I was able to go to the LEGO box and grab it to complete the aircraft carrier. The boot took a long time to make but it fitted together surprisingly well and didn't fall apart like I thought when I first started building it (although we're pretty sure the instructions are missing 4 wheels or the manufacturer thought they were Eliminating 4 wheels was a good measure (savings). This is great value for money and if your child is interested in building I would recommend it. Now for the knock. The aircraft carrier is a large, double-sided piece of paper, about 2 feet by 2 feet. Each step has a light gray color for previously completed parts and a darker gray color for what you need to do. LEGO Friends, for example, breaks down a series of areas into smaller areas and uses a 4 color print to show how they fit together. To do this we had to look at the parts list, trying to figure out if a part was dark gray or black at times, figuring out where some parts went by comparing light gray vs dark gray attachments, and some of those parts not being oriented in the way you would expect , are kind of a guess. If they had two 2x2 inch instruction pages and the instructions were colored better (it's a 4 color page so the color for the addons might be different than dark gray) I would give 5 stars and a recommendation+++. , but sometimes it was difficult to understand the instructions. Great value for what I paid and although it felt very flimsy during assembly, it shows remarkable strength once complete.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
