I first bought these, my first pair of Polk speakers, for my bedroom stereo. I made room on my bookshelf, where they stood on their side. After plugging them in I was blown away by the sound. Incredibly deep tones and rich mids for a speaker of this size. In fact, I was stunned. After a few months, I realized I wanted floorstanding speakers for home theater in the living room. However, since my living room is quite small (I live in a small studio), I decided to try these speakers in this configuration. The results were mixed. Although I thought the speakers balanced my center channel excellently they don't play music as well in this room as they do in the bedroom I should also note that these speakers were locked in a separate small cabinet on a bookshelf in the bedroom, maybe about 1-1 1/2 inches (sides, top and bottom). In the living room, they just sit on top of my entertainment center, on either side of my TV. So while the music still sounds good, it lacks the charm that the bedroom had. I find myself cranking the amp up to levels I've never had before. But the movies sound great. Not exactly sure why, but it sounds a lot better than my floorstanding speakers. This may be their location (higher and closer together). It should also be noted that these speakers are not small. And they are particularly deep. They're also pretty heavy. But all this is a great compromise for the sound. I will most likely be getting another pair of Polk speakers soon.
