I am 70 years old and have been using these Goody combs exclusively for over 30 years. My hair went through many iterations from a very thick brown to a medium white/grey. These brushes have accompanied me every step of the way. Instead of the coarse and flexible hair I used to have, it is now brittle and of medium thickness. But it was always naturally dry and frizzy, and I always smoothed it out with a round brush and a blow dryer. All of these things contribute to the ease of grinding and tearing. I use a quality shampoo and conditioner to counteract this. Let me just say these brushes are the ONLY brushes for my hair wet or dry. However, please understand that they are NOT suitable for blow-drying. Designed to comb and detangle (yes, detangle!) they are one of the few toothbrushes that reach the scalp. They absolutely do not tear your hair when used correctly. To detangle damp hair, start at the bottom and gently pull through your hair as you work your way up. You will find that there is no such thing as tangled hair (if you apply conditioner to your hair and leave it on for a bit) that is not easy to untangle. To detangle dry hair, start at the scalp and gently pull downwards until you meet resistance. Lift the brush and move it a little higher and on the resisting hair, gently pull and the brush will slide through. Keep pulling until you feel resistance, then remove the brush from your hair. Repeat these steps until your hair is no longer tangled. Once your hair is knotted, you can comb it head to tail without it getting tangled again. It doesn't take any time at all. There are no brushes in the world that take care of the hair as well as these brushes. I referred my family and friends to these brushes, which became instant favorites. But you say your hair is different and more complex? It's possible, but I doubt it. The only hair that would be tougher than mine would be black hair tightly curled. I always wear my naturally curly hair straight. The natural curl adds extra volume. These brushes provide control and health and my scalp feels like heaven. The secret is knowing how to use them.
