I don't know how it works yet, but let me be clear, THERE IS NO MEDICINE FOR DROPS! People who say it cured dropsy obviously didn't have a fish that had dropsy, but something else that might have looked like dropsy. Do not believe anyone who says that this or that fish helps against dropsy, because this is impossible. DESCRIPTION is the most common and deadly disease in bettas. often associated with feeding live food, especially black worms. Very little is known about this, but the cause of bulging scales is the accumulation of fluid under the skin in the tissues of bettas. Usually the cause of the fluid buildup is simple KIDNEY FAILURE. And as you know, once the kidneys fail, the body dies (unless you have a fish dialysis machine, which we know you don't have). I think that's why we've had so little luck (mmmm. let me rephrase, NO LUCK AT ALL) in successfully treating dropsy bettas. Although dropsy (symptom) is not contagious per se, BACTERIAL KIDNEY FAILURE is usually very, very contagious. As said, there is no known cure. Keep the water clean, keep it AWAY from other bettas, etc. I have sometimes seen bettas recover on their own if the scales swell just very slightly. But I suspect this is because these cases are NOT true dropsy. True dropsy always kills. So I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. The treatment is completely useless. It can take up to 15 days for bettas to die, but usually around 5 days. Any banyan with dropsy should be ISOLATED immediately! There is no harm in praying.
