You can adjust the metal grip ring by pulling it out and folding it down to a smaller size.

It worked on some bottles at first but not all. Then I discovered that the metal grip ring folds down to grip smaller bottles. I'm not sure if I see it anywhere in the instructions. You just pull it out and twist it to a smaller diameter. Now I can pour into thin necks.
