Well, first of all the price, and it's decent. The metal used is strong enough to last several days of "we'll beat the crap out of the gear" before our bigger ones head out. There were no complaints about the scoop, but the ferro bar sucks. It's a bit heavy for a kit, but honestly, writing it off wasn't too bad. Now I have a problem with the hatchet. It's not pretty, but the head itself was decent enough, with one exception. it just spins. There is no locking mechanism or anything like that. If the head even rotates during impact, it will completely get out of the way and detach. Not exactly a deal breaker, it worked great for chopping camp wood but I wouldn't recommend using it for chopping wood.
