Review on ๐Ÿ“ท 3 Legged Thing Punks Billy Lightweight Tripod: Your Ultimate General Use Tripod with Multi-Tool (Billy Anarchy Edition) by Tim Woods

Looks great feels light but disappointing quality

I was looking for a lightweight tripod for my hikes. This tripod meets all requirements. I've compared it to several other tripods on the market and find it to be one of the lightest tripods, especially when the center post is removed. Unfortunately, I encountered two disappointments with this tripod. First, legs and wellies tend to fall off. I noticed that a detachable leg was screwed on easily. Luckily I caught it and added duct tape to hold it in place. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that the rubber feet were also loose. I lost a leg on my first ride, forcing myself to spend another $20 on parts. I've now tightened everything up, but I've lost confidence in the reliability of this product. Second, the ball head is not very good. It has the same poor vertical behavior as a cheap tripod. You need to overstretch the position to make it "bounce" in the desired position. Horizontal movement is smooth and precise, but at this price point I was hoping for more precise ball head adjustment. In general, while the impressions are disappointing. I hope that later I will love this tripod, but for now I would not recommend it to a friend. UPDATE 01/18/19: I ended up sending the tripod back to the seller. The final nail in the coffin lid was the limited game. There is almost no wiggle room to mount the plate that comes with the tripod and no wiggle room to mount the Arca-Swiss plate on my camera cage. I measured the maximum width of 37.6 mm. So make sure it fits your 3rd party record if you want to use one. UPDATE 01/19/19: I bought a GEEKOTO carbon fiber tripod which is half the price. I'm curious how it compares to a tripod that costs twice as much. In addition, the manufacturer holds the transport company responsible. That's an interesting justification for a product that's supposed to survive mountain tours hanging from a backpack. Both tripods weigh about the same (70 grams difference). But this $130 tripod offers so much more: 4 levels of leg adjustment, a padded carry case, a monopod hand strap, a monopod hand grip, a mounting plate wide enough to accommodate the Arca-Swiss. Plate, two levels of center post adjustment, and longer leg bolts to hold it all together. Also, this tripod features a retractable ballast hook, so you don't need a separate weight clamp.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • weak
