Edit: 05/13/2018 - I couldn't get eSim to work via Microsoft Support so I created an app in the Microsoft Store. When I explained to them what had happened, they started searching their internal forums while I was in business. I had a slight advantage as I work in IT and also buy MS software for my business. Upon closer inspection, there were obviously others with the exact same problem. In fact, Microsoft's offer for Transatel, which will connect the eSim, is currently being updated and is currently not available for purchase on demand. Furthermore, I could not upgrade my device to version 1803, the latest version of Windows 10, To update. They actually worked on my device at the Tech Store and compared it to a new Surface with the same specs. They applied the 1803 updates before we attempted to set up the eSim. After we did that, everything was fine. They still don't know what caused it but entered all this information into their internal system so hopefully this will help others. On top of that, even though I bought it from Revain and not the MS Store, I got a brand new device that is now ready to use. I didn't have high expectations when I visited the store but I give them credit for working with me on this and getting me a new device with no hassle. Employees, who I worked with in the store, was top notch. (thanks Kasia) I hope this helps others. This device is the same as my Surface Pro replacing the new LTE box, but LTE was what I really needed. Their typical installation when they were new was a standard walk, so there weren't any problems. The device has two forms of LTE, an internal eSIM and an external SIM slot. I set up an internal eSim that actually connects to the plan you buy through Microsoft and Gemalto/Transatel for on-demand use. I didn't follow this plan but wanted to test the process. Payment is made through Microsoft, but the carrier is Transatel. It's not cheap and I would only use it as a last resort. $13.99 for 1 concert for 15 days. It worked fine after that as I tested it for an hour or so. Then came the bad news. At night Windows did some updates on my surface and then eSim didn't work on any level. It got blocked and even though I re-entered the APN info and tried to set up esim again. I had no luck. I have collected all diagnostic logs etc and will send them to Microsoft. On the plus side, I went to ATT today and got a sim card for the external slot. It didn't take long to set up in the store and there was a slight problem when entering the APN information, but it turned out that one of the entries was TYPO and after fixing the problem it was fixed, and now I can connect with ATT as required. I didn't really need an internal eSIM and I didn't even know they had one when I ordered it, but once I've resolved this issue, it will only be a bonus. As for the rest of the interface, everything works as expected. I was at ATT today and got a SIM card for an external slot.
