Review on MAGNAVOX MDR513H F7 Recorder Digital by Badpuppy Warton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Absolutely awesome machine

I just installed my new Magnavox (Funai) MDR513H/F7 at home and it's amazing. One particularly great feature is that it's almost a mirror image of the Philips DVDR3576H in terms of use, which I also own. This new Magnavox with a larger hard drive will eventually replace the Philips device and the fact that they are functionally almost identical will make the transition easier. which was excellent. Devices of this type are an ideal replacement for a VCR, and products from Philips and Magnavox are remarkably easy to use, including editing. SD shipments. If I had to watch HD I would buy an HD player, but at this point in my life I don't need one. Only time will tell if this product will hold up, but Funai's predecessor, the Philips 3576H, was problematic. Free for me for over a year. I see no reason why this Magnavox (also by Funai) should be any different. I plan on buying another one as a backup in case Funai decides to stop their production like they did with the Philps line. For a while I was extremely frustrated when I couldn't find hard drive DVDs on the market and resigned myself to finding a very good PC to try and use as a bad replacement. I was delighted to discover this Magnavox product and even more delighted to discover that it is the finished successor to a Philips product. These are simple machines that are very convenient to use. Editing to remove unnecessary material from entries or split material into multiple titles is easy and the results are excellent. Someone looking for more sophisticated editing options might be disappointed, but they're perfect for my needs at home. While they can split titles, they can't merge titles, which is the ONLY job I wish they could do, but it's very rarely necessary. Editing the beginning and end of a post and removing unwanted content like ads or other content is a breeze. Also, it's very useful for downloading and editing videos from my SD camcorders. It's missing the USB input that Philips had, but I didn't use it anyway so I don't miss it. DV or composite inputs are great for my needs. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a good VCR successor only interested in working with SD video. A total of five bright stars. Addendum 10/31/2010: I now have the third of these machines and am still very satisfied. My original continues to work well with the rare oddity of the recording session randomly stopping on its own. This doesn't happen often but for this reason I've changed my original 5 stars to 4 as have the remote controls which could have had an improved quality and layout. My second car came out of the box with an unserviceable defect but Revain (as always) fixed it straight away and I had it replaced in just a few days so I have absolutely no complaints about the experience. This latest machine has been running flawlessly for a few days now with no apparent problems. I'm still not thrilled with the quality and layout of the remote control. However, it works without any problems, so I can't find any major flaws in this regard. Just a matter of personal opinion. I am still grateful to Funai for reintroducing this device as it is an excellent successor to my VCRs. This product is used in my house for many hours daily, mainly for time-delayed TV, and still deserves 5 stars for this app. The editing is very simple and tailored to my needs at home as closely as I could wish. Aside from a rare recording oddity with my original machine and my lack of enthusiasm for remote controls, this easily deserves 6 stars in my opinion. I would recommend it to anyone with no real qualifications.
