Two completely different experiences

I installed one of these on my gaming PC about 2 years ago. It worked and still works great on this PC. I had no problems with powering the port (problem as the card doesn't have a dedicated power connector and gets all its power from the mobo). I bought another one of these guys for my other PC (streaming PC). Worked great again. in a week. I noticed 2 nights ago that the card is not transferring data. I think it sends electricity because every device I plug in turns on for a moment and then turns off. So the map is wrong. I send it back as defective and get a different card but a different brand. The new card does the same; does not work fully. I put a new card in a different 1x slot on my mobo; works perfectly. So the Inateck card toasted that first 1x slot on my mobo. Folks, I know these unpowered USB 3.0 cards look very attractive, but do yourself a favor and just take care of the problem of getting a powered card and running a cable from the power supply to it. Don't waste a whole 1x slot on your mobo. I do not recommend this or any other card without a power supply unless you get one of these cards with two USB slots instead of +4.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
