You may need a ground loop isolator for proper operation.
I have a 2010 Camaro SS and initially I had trouble putting my amp into protect mode every time I connected an RCA cable to the amp. I pulled out my meter and soon found I had continuity between ground and power on the RCA cable. It's just that I had a ground loop isolator laying around in my garage so I installed it on an RCA cable and now everything works fine.
