We've had intermittent surges and blackouts recently due to the failure of a utility wire leading to our home. We lost several devices and other items due to voltage issues. Luckily, the utility covered most of our $4,000 loss since the problem was with their hardware. However, our computers and HDTVs were protected by surge protectors that "gave their lives" to power surges, but protected the electronics the way you hoped! I've bought several spare protectors including these CyberPower modules that run in the background until needed again (hopefully never). If your device is not protected, CAUTION!
