Review on 100 Watt Solar Charge Regulator by Patrick Mccall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Inexpensive solar controller

I bought it in a local store much cheaper, also with a 20% discount coupon. Charging the battery of my rarely used Mustang in the garage without an AC connection. If you connect the solar panel directly to the battery, you can charge it, but will destroy the battery when it is fully charged and the voltage will be too high due to the voltage of the panel, which is nominally 18V solar panel when the battery is charging and the voltage is too high and cuts off power to all DC loads if used and discharges the battery before the battery voltage is too low, which will also be destroyed. It also prevents the battery from being drained back to the panel when the panel is not producing enough voltage, e.g. B. at night. At the same time I bought a solar cable kit that plugs directly into 2 pin SAE connectors. on the controller which allowed me to connect the controller to the battery terminals and then connect the solar panel. Please note that the battery must be connected first and last according to the limited instructions on the back of the box to avoid damage. The 3 simple LED indicators on the controller tell you everything you need to know about the charging system at a basic level: charging, fully charged and maximum battery voltage. and the battery voltage is at the minimum and the DC load is off. I glued the bare "LOAD" wires for my application as I don't power other items like lights or a cell phone charger while charging a car battery.

Pros
  • Generators and portable power supplies
Cons
  • There are nuances
